Leap of Faith II: Campaign Clinton

I always thought that the film Leap of Faith–starring Steve Martin and Debra Winger–had a real charm about it; because deep down, you knew that the Jonah Nightingale huckster who ran the rigged tent revivals (played by Martin) at heart was a good man. This was borne out by the ending in which Martin ended his larcenous ways.

Would that Hillary Clinton had learned that same lesson; no sooner do I leave town for a football game than news breaks that all of her campaign rallies are as jury-rigged as the revivals were in that film. In the film, Jonas and his band of shysters milk the members of the small town community for their pennies and dollars. In real life, the shysters milk potential donors for big money–and much larger stakes for all of us.

Hillary may get a free pass from the press for taking money from Norman Hsu and busboys and dishwashers from Chinatown and (let’s face it) the Chinese government; but to get nailed planting questioners and questions at her rallies? That takes a special kind of screw-up. And it isn’t something the voters are likely to forget.

Voting for Hillary? That is a real leap of faith.
